Every year wedding blogs and media outlets forecast their wedding trends for the year ahead. Due to the nature of planning a wedding so far in advance, many trends will stick around for a few years, while others are truly new ideas that event professionals are starting to get requests for. We ultimately love working with clients to plan their classic and stylish wedding celebrations in the Washington, DC region. We don’t necessarily feel a client needs to follow all of the wedding trends, but we like to keep on top of fresh wedding ideas to help provide suggestions to our clients to incorporate where they feel right.

Here are the top 5 wedding planning trends for 2017:

Color

While an all white wedding can be classic and beautiful. We have seen a lot more clients requesting colorful flowers and decor for their wedding. Incorporating a favorite or seasonal color is a great way to personalize your wedding to truly make it your own. Different colors can evoke different moods and feelings, whether you are looking for a wedding style that is more romantic, bold or whimsical. The Pantone Color of the Year for 2017 is a chartreuse green color called “Greenery” and we have seen a lot of couples incorporating more shades of green in their wedding. We are also seeing a lot of vibrant colors and jewel tones.

Using technology to share your wedding

Technology is all around us and couples are integrating technology into their wedding planning and celebrations with things like Snapchat geofilters, electronic save-the-dates and invitations, electronic RSVPs, live-streaming their wedding ceremony and using a drone to take aerial video from above. There are so many advantages to utilizing technology for your wedding. The sky is the limit and this is only going to grow as more and more millennial’s start to get engaged and get married.

Hanging Decor

When it comes to wedding decor, floral designs will always be a huge area to make a statement. In recent years we have seen a move towards more dramatic hanging floral installations, as opposed to just a simple centerpiece on a dinner table. We love when a client wants to add this type of vertical decor with flowers or candles, it is a beautiful and impactful way to design a wedding space. I expect we will see even more hanging lights and floral decor for weddings in 2017.

Charitable Donations on Registry

Gone are the days where you could only register for pots and pans at your local home store. Couples today are setting up online registries and adding a registry option for items beyond flatware. Honeymoon funds gained popularity a few years ago and many couples are using honeymoon or cash funds for their home. Charitable couples can also opt to ask guests to donate to causes they are passionate about with a charitable donation registry. As many couples are getting married later in life, they may already have all they need for their home. This shift to add a charity, encourages giving rather than getting.

Late Night Snacks

Most weddings are night-time events and after a full day of celebrating and an open bar, a late night snack is a great idea.  This is becoming more of a staple and there are so many fun and creative ideas for a late night bite. We’ve had couples tie in their favorite late night college pizza tradition or their favorite DC food truck for guests to grab as they are leaving the wedding.
