When it comes to designing a wedding, I love infusing the classic with the contemporary. Wedding trends often are influenced by what’s happening in fashion and home design. Here are some of the 2016 trends that I am most excited about, as seen on The DC Ladies:
New Metallics – Copper & Rose Gold
Gold and sparkly have had a big moment in weddings over the last couple of years. This year we are seeing copper and rose gold emerging as the metallic of choice. I love the warmth and romance they infuse into the wedding. They feel especially feminine and while these are trendy pieces, these colors will still be beautiful when you look back at your wedding in 10, 15, 20 + years.

Bold Lighting
Uplighting or colored/patterned lights placed around the room have been the primary lighting used by couples for a long time. And that’s not going anywhere. But the new lighting design that couples are gravitating towards are hanging lights, from stunning crystal chandeliers to hanging Edison style lightbulbs for a more industrial vibe. Couples who are on more of a budget can also get into this trend by using a lot of candles in various sizes throughout their centerpieces and décor.

Mix and Match Style
Instead of using one single look or style, couples are infusing different styles to create a wedding that is uniquely their own. This is especially great for couples who may not see eye-to-eye on all of the design choices. Don’t be afraid to mix rustic and glam, modern and traditional, urban loft with garden romance, etc. The only rule is that the styles you pick should feel authentically you!

Calligraphy Everywhere
This is a trend that is definitely not new, but with increasing popularity we are seeing calligraphy all over the wedding and not just on the invitations. From cake toppers to hand drawn menus and calligraphy on chairs and custom plates, etc. I love this look, especially for couples who are a bit more formal and traditional.
