As I work with couples every year to plan their beautiful weddings, there are often times when I am reminded of my own nuptials. I cannot believe it’s been 5 years since I was married. I still look back on that day as one of the happiest of my life. For the most part I have zero regrets on the decisions we made and how the day unfolded. Even if it wasn’t perfect in every way, it felt right to us!
When I look back, here is what I remember most:
1) Saying “I do”. During the planning process, the ceremony isn’t always weighted as heavily as some of the other components. But it’s certainly the most important part! I just remember this magical feeling as I stood with Dave under our chuppah and we exchanged our vows and rings. And as I speak with couples after the wedding, many tell me their favorite part of the wedding was their ceremony.
2) Feeling the love. Weddings bring family and friends together for a wonderful celebration of love. It is an exciting and emotional time for couples and their loved ones. I remember different moments and exchanges throughout the day and just feeling so loved by those who were there to witness and celebrate. As well as thinking about those who were there in spirit (but not in body). It’s pretty special to be able to exchange vows and get married surrounded by those important people.
3) Having fun! Our wedding turned into a big dance party and as someone who loves to dance (with a big dancing family and friend group), it was a lot of fun! I’m so glad that we had a professional DJ on hand to orchestrate that. We provided some “must plays” and some “do not plays” and then gave our DJ free range to play the songs in any order he felt would work, as well as add in other music in similar genres.
5 years have gone by in a heartbeat, but some of these wedding moments and feelings have stayed with me to become memories that last a lifetime.
