Last spring I teamed up with Photographer Evelyn Alas and Shelly Bagdasian of B Floral Event Design to put together a Wedding Styled Shoot at Woodend in Chevy Chase, MD. Our goal was to re-imagine the love story of Wendy Darling and Peter Pan, in a way that current engaged couples could be inspired for their own wedding. Together, with an amazing group of wedding professionals (see full list below), we carefully thought about details important to create a beautiful wedding and with respect to the story of Peter and Wendy. Our Peter Pan Wedding Inspiration was featured on Style Me Pretty last Fall.
-
In our photo shoot, we wanted to capture the essence of this timeless story and bring the worlds of Peter Pan and Wendy Darling together. We imagine that Wendy Darling and Peter Pan would plan their wedding in an elegant setting that also includes nature, whimsical youth, beauty, and fantasy. We chose Woodend in Chevy Chase, MD as our location because this particular venue combines a great natural woodsy backdrop and an elegant Georgian Revival mansion. With this setting, Wendy Darling and Peter Pan would be able to take advantage of a beautiful outside and inside setting.

When we picture Wendy Darling, a fresh and youthful girl comes to mind. For Wendy’s make-up, the hair and make-up team at Allison Harper and Co provided a natural and understated look in order to accentuate her blue eyes. Her hair was swept to the side for a look that was playful and also intricately braided. The Claire Pettibone dress from Hannelore’s, was selected because her vintage style designs are delicate and graceful and at the same time playful and whimsical. The Twigs and Honey head piece in blue and gold and gold sparkly shoes worn by Wendy, were a nod to Neverland and Tinkerbell.
- Peter Pan, is often seen as a mischievous young boy, however we decided to show a mature Peter. We dressed him in a classic black suit with a modern skinny black tie. We also gave him forest green socks to allude to the classic symbol of his former adventures.
- Simply Designed worked with us to provide an amazing invitation suite that perfectly complimented our theme and even included quotes from the story. Escort cards were written with names of characters from the original Peter Pan. Pixie dust favors were provided, which represented the fantastical aspect of the wedding.
-
We set our main guest dining table on the mansion’s portico; this provided a beautiful and classical backdrop. It also created an intimate space for our bride and groom’s family and friends. The vintage crystal stemware and from gold silverware Vintage Affairs, as well as the champagne-shimmer tablecloth, gold-rimmed plates from Corcoran Caterers alluded to Wendy Darling’s London lifestyle. The moss-draped tablescape and lush flowers from B Floral Event Design provides a connection to nature with our décor. We also created a different but complimentary bride and groom’s sweetheart table with a lush garland of flowers that adorned the table and a darker green silk linen.
- We carried out gold elements throughout the styling and décor of our reception and dessert tables. Our cake artist at Charm City Cakes designed a simple and chic white cake brushed with gold shimmer, it was topped with a white floral wreath cake topper to compliment Wendy’s head piece. Miniature bite sized dessert treats from Corcoran Caterers included a decadent assortment of chocolates, macaroons, and cupcakes.
I am so incredibly proud to have been apart of this fabulous “wedding” styled shoot. All of the wedding professionals involved did such a fantastic job, it was a wonderful team to work with. A big thank you to our real couple, Jen and Nate, who worked with Bright Occasions for their Wedding Coordination last year!
